The 5 Fastest Mustangs Ever Made

mustang performanceIn recent years, Ford has stepped up its racing game with some seriously powerful Mustangs. While Mustang engine power typically ranges from 101 to 390 horsepower, the following five models have pushed the limits of what we ever thought cars were capable of. Here are the five fastest Ford Mustangs ever made.

  1. 2011 GT California Special
Talk about fast Fords – This model has a ferocious DOHC V8 engine capable of 412 horsepower and 390 pound-feet or torque. It is one of the fastest Mustangs ever made. The GT CS covered the quarter-mile run in 12.8 seconds, flying at 110.8 miles per hour, and going from zero to 60 in 4.3 seconds. Of course, you can get the same exceptional mustang performance from the Standard GT Premium models at a lower price, but the limited edition model certainly makes a statement.
  2. 2007 Shelby GT500
This 2007 model was the first Mustang to go by the Shelby name in almost 40 years. Modern day Mustang racing never looked so good, as the GT500 closely resembles the old-school vintage muscle monster we love and remember. It also has the increasing horsepower to turbo-boost its performance thanks to its 500-horse 5.4-liter V8 engine.
  3. 2012 Mustang Boss 302
Who doesn’t love Ford’s current trend of throwback Mustangs? This Boss model is made for high-speed Ford racing, with its 3,621 pounds flying from zero to 60 in 3.97 seconds during recent Motor Trend tests. In fact, Motor Trend even declared it the “greatest ‘Stang of all time.”
  4. 2016 Shelby GT350R
This lightweight beauty is not just one of the best Mustangs ever made, it has also established itself as one of the best performance cars in the world. It is equipped with an innovative flat-plane crank V8 engine, a good deal of carbon fiber, and equally lightweight parts that allow it to go from zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds.
  5. 2013 Shelby GT500You’ve never seen a Mustang performance quite like this. The Shelby GT500 runs on a V8 with the most horsepower ever produced in North America. The aluminum monster creates 662 horsepower at 6,500 rpm. During performance tests, the GT500 soared from zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds, completing the quarter-mile run in 11.6 seconds at 125.7 miles per hour.
